Best Cars for Teens

According to government statistics, motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for US teens. What can we do? The US Centers for Disease Control (CDC) reminds us to use seat belts, don't text or drink when driving and take driver training courses.

But, in addition, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), the American Automobile Association (AAA) and Consumer Reports all recommend making sure that your teenager is in a safe car. Generally speaking, in choosing a vehicle for your teenager their recommendations are:

  • Stay away from high horsepower
  • Bigger vehicles are safer
  • Electronic Stability Control (ESC) is a must
  • Newer cars have better safety features

Here are their specific recommendations on vehicles that are considered best for teenagers:

Please keep your teen safe and don't let them hurt others. Please make sure that they wear their seatbelts, that they take driver training, that they don't text and drive (or drink and drive) and make sure they're in the safest possible vehicle.
