Paul R. Oppegard's Personal Biography

Paul has thirty-five years experience in handling the largest and most complex civil litigation. Often times from a defense perspective, Paul’s primary job is disaster management and working with the client’s team to resolve major catastrophes.

Paul has a select group of individual clients and he is willing to meet with them at extremely discrete locations to handle matters of the utmost sensitivity where his experience, business acumen, and good judgment can help contain a variety of matters that require the utmost skill and discretion.

Paul also enjoys helping injured persons and families that have lost loved ones through disasters. He has experience on both sides of this issue; experience representing from both the defense and the plaintiffs perspective uniquely qualifies him to resolve these matters expediently with fair compensation awarded for the nature and type of injury and circumstance.

Paul is one of the most experienced civil trial litigators in the area and throughout the state of North Dakota and Minnesota. He has tried all manner of civil litigation matters including personal injury, wrongful death, toxic tort and product liability cases. There is no substitute for the wisdom and good judgment that comes from this type of hardened experience.

In addition to practicing law, Paul is a successful business man. He owns and develops commercial real estate and residential apartment buildings. As a result, Paul has a unique insight into business owners’ issues and problems.

When Paul is not practicing law, he enjoys a wide range of hobbies and interests. Chief among these is his competitive clay target shooting. He has been a member of the Veterans United States Shooting Team seven times and has represented the United States in shooting competitions in the United States, France, and Italy. He was the 2010 North American FITASC Champion, Captain of Team U.S.A. for the United States Veterans FITASC team in 2011 and enjoys a host of accolades and friendships made from his pursuit of world class shooting.

Paul also enjoys health and fitness, cooks and eats organic at home, is a regular weightlifter, and enjoys a host of other activities to keep him fit and active including cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, dirt bikes, mountain biking, hiking, vibration plate training, jet skiing, and archery. Paul has two Drahthaar hunting dogs from Germany, Arnie and Lucky, and enjoys their company and observing them on their excursions pheasant hunting in the Fall. Paul has hunted throughout the United States, Western Canada, Mexico, and Africa.

Paul also enjoys cooking for groups of 2-4 people, good wine, friends, reading, and travel.

Paul has visited Europe many times as well as Australia, the Soviet Union, various Mediterranean countries, Africa, and the UAE.
